The Ekurhuleni Metro started to cut down bluegum trees willy-nilly regardless of size, soil erosion, birds and small animals.
What are they trying to do, destroy our environment?
I do realise that bluegums are not indigenous but they act as windbreaks and keep wash-aways in check.
Councillor Shadow Shabangu wouldn’t know a safety concern if it went up to him and bit him.
Criminals can hide anywhere – they do not need trees.
That is just a stupid excuse to cut them down. Shame on you, council.
They are also cutting trees down in Struisbult, most likely for the same trivial reasons.
Trees are living beings and should be treated as such.
Who will take all the cash made from selling the trees for firewood?
If they try to cut down the trees in Struisbult parks then there will be a lot of people standing in front of them to protect them.
Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says trees cause a nuisance. Rubbish. People who don’t know what they are doing cause a nuisance.
