Special award for Tabu
The Western Province Professional Cricket Association (WPPCA) honoured Tabu Durandt during an award ceremony recently held in the Western Province.
Tabu was given a special award for his contribution to cricket for learners with special educational needs(LSEN).
The Springs resident, who is also the Easterns LSEN Cricket honorary president, was taken by surprise when his name was called out for an award during the prizegiving ceremony.
The award ceremony was held after the completion of the 16th South African LSEN National Cricket Tournament which he has been attending with the Gauteng Cricket Association since its inception.
“I have been involved in cricket now for 25 years and I am pleased with the way that things have turned out for players, especially those from special schools,” he says.
Having coached many children at the different schools, Tabu finds joy and a sense of pride purely from the children’s success.
“I did not expect this award, it was a complete surprise and I am very grateful to everyone who saw it necessary to give me this,” he says.
According to Tabu, there is nothing that he loves more than teaching children cricket and giving them the confidence to face the world boldly.
“I love cricket and I love children, if there is an opportunity I will do it for another 25 years,” he concludes.
He wants to extend his gratitude to Nabeal Dien and the rest of the management at the WPPCA as well as all those who have contributed to his life in cricket.
