Proud moment for kickboxers
It was a proud moment for all the students of the Combat Zone Kickboxing Club who received awards at the annual prize giving ceremony.
Everyone was dressed up for the occasion at the Springs Old Boys Club on Saturday evening.
According to sensei Wessel Marais, all his students performed very well during the year and he is very proud of them.
“Everyone involved in the club makes it worth our while. We are one big family, but when we are on the mat we work very hard, then there is no time to play,” says Wessel.
Piet Brummer plays a very big role in the club, not only by attending every fight, but by supporting the fighters by either having a towel close by or wors rolls for the hungry ones.
“He is someone you can count on,” adds Wessel.
Each and every member of the club received either a medal for participating or a trophy with their new belt.
A very proud Mohammed Sheik received the Best Fighter of the Year with a 10 second knockout trophy.
The youngest member of the club, five-year-old Ruan Hattingh received the Youngest Graduater trophy and received his yellow belt.
Anna Hattingh is proud to be a sepei after receiving her black belt.
“I am a junior instructor now and look forward to what is waiting in the new year,” says Anna.
Another sepei is the young Stephen Brummer who won the Junior Fighter of the Year trophy and also received his black belt.
Sensei Wessel, a senior second dan is assisted at the club by his son Ivan a junior first dan.
Wessel recently received the trophy for the best Sensei of the Year 2013 by the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (Wako).
“I am very proud of my son who received a trophy for the Best Junior Fighter of the year 2013,” says sensei Wessel.
