Mistaken for a dead man
It's one thing to be feared because of a certain reputation, but to have people run away from you because they think you are a ghost, is scary.
Monwabisi Arthur Nyoka of Edelweiss has had enough of people running away from him because they think he is dead.
The confusion camebegan three weeks ago when a funeral notice was placed in the African Reporter saying that a certain Arthur Mbolekwa had died.
This caused confusion among many people who saw the name and picture of the deceased and immediately assumed it was Nyoka.
Since then the 63-year-old taxi owner has had many uncomfortable stares from people who believe he is dead.
According to Monwabisi, the picture that was used in the notice for the man who died, is one that looks very similar to him.
He was worried people would think he was the man who had died, and in an attempt to avoid confusion, he decided to act.
“I knew this would happen because we looked the same and have the same name, so I made sure that I attended the funeral so that people could see that it was not me who had died,” he says.
This did not seem to work as rumours quickly spread that he had died.
Arthur says a week ago a woman was so terrified to see him that she ran in the opposite direction, something that has happened to him several times over the past few weeks. That is when he decided that enough was enough.
He adds that the situation has got so bad that he is no longer free to walk the streets in town without people running away.
“This is a serious matter and I want people to realise that I am alive and I am definitely not a ghost,” he adds.
This has caused great discomfort and makes it very awkward for his family who are tired of explaining to people that he is alive.
“I do not mean to cause any confusion but this madness must stop today,” he concludes.
