Predictable teen romance

Book: Teardrop Author: Lauren Kate Review made possible by: Rebel House Struik Reviewed by: Sarah Coughlan Rating: 6 out of 10

Teardrop is the first book in Lauren Kate’s new trilogy. She is also the author of the best selling Fallen series.

Seventeen-year-old Eureka won’t let anyone close enough to feel her pain. After her mother was killed in a freak accident, the things she used to love hold no meaning. She wants to escape but one thing holds her back: Ander, the boy who is everywhere she goes, whose turquoise eyes are like the ocean.

And then Eureka uncovers an ancient tale of romance and heartbreak, about a girl who cried an entire continent into the sea. Suddenly her mother’s death and Ander’s appearance seem connected and her life takes on dark undercurrents that don’t make sense.

The cover of the book is what made me choose it to review. It looked mystical and full of magic. But the magic and mythological elements of the book were few and far between.

The book follows the classic teen romance theme and seems to rush into it as well.

I enjoyed Ander’s character more than Eureka’s. Ander is an unusual character, he seems to have stalking tendencies and appears when you least expect him to. But whenever you want to find him he seems to disappear.

The twists and turns in the book were interesting and the ending left me on a cliffhanger that sets the book up for a sequel.

It took a little while before I got into the book and even though it didn’t disappoint me, it didn’t wow me either.
