Local artist finds healing through hip-hop music.

Springs College student, Gordon Motshegoa, who is known as Oddboy GMO will be hosting his first music experience on August 6.

Gordon Motshegoa, also known as Oddboy GMO, is a local rapper who found his voice through music.
The Springs College student, who is currently studying second-year information technology, said he has had an interest in writing and music from an early age.
“Before I got into music, I used to write a lot. I focused on putting my thoughts and emotions onto paper. That was my escape from the hardships I carried,” he said.
He shared that his fair share of ups and downs sometimes led him to self-destructive thoughts and mental breakdowns.
“Rap healed me, music is my therapy. I believe my music will touch the hearts of those listening and who are going through turmoil in their lives,” he said.

His mixtapes comprise hip-hop but he is hoping to wander into afro-pop music.
Oddboy GMO said his first mixtape Purpose, released in 2020, was a transition from adolescence to adulthood where he had learned a lot about himself in the process.
“I learned about interactions with family, understanding myself, treating myself better and figuring out my purpose,” he said.
His second mixtape Cruel Summer was released in January.
Although he is still studying, his goal is to make music full-time and it is his main source of income in the future.
Oddboy GMO will be hosting a music experience session in August where other local artists are set to perform.
