Bhairavi Sungum celebrates Tamil New Year with vibrant concert

Music and tradition took centre stage as Bhairavi Sungum marked the Tamil New Year with a colourful celebration.

Bhairavi Sungum of Springs celebrated the Tamil New Year with their 33rd Tamil New Year concert at Bakerton Community Centre on April 11.

The new year, known as Paraa Bhava Varusham 5127 – the year of ego dissolution marks a time of renewal, reflection and new beginnings.

The event was well attended and featured performances by the renowned Luxmi Entertainers,, while Natya Anjali dancers delivered graceful, captivating performances.

In her welcome address, the chairperson of Bhairavi Sungum, Poovershree Pillay, emphasised the importance of promoting and preserving Tamil culture, especially among the younger generation.

“A special highlight of the day was a performance by the Bhairavi Youth, who impressed attendees with their energy and dedication, reflecting the bright future of cultural preservation,” Pillay said.

The guest speaker, Srimati Subashni Naicker, delivered a powerful and inspiring message, encouraging both youth and parents to prioritise education while remaining deeply rooted in their rich cultural heritage.

The celebration concluded with a delicious meal prepared by the Bhairavi Sungum members, ending the day on a warm, festive note.

“It was truly a celebration to remember,” Pillay said.
