A 29-year-old man, Godfrey Moaka was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The case was opened against him on September 30, 2015 after he robbed a man at gunpoint of R45 799.31, he was apprehended by police after a shootout took place shortly after the robbery, a total of 39 bullet casings were found on scene at the shootout.

Themba Zuma, a 32-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for house robbery and the possession of an unlicensed firearm. The case was opened in February 2015.

The victims in the case were sitting in their home when they heard the dog barking, they heard the front door open and Zuma ordered the family to lie down, during the robbery, the husband managed to contact one of the neighbours who alerted the police of the house robbery.

Zuma had made a run for it with the family’s possessions in hand when he was arrested by the late Const Thabo Magakwe, Zuma was taken into custody and his firearm, a RAP401 was confiscated.

Quinton Qupido, aged 30, was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for armed robbery.
Qupido was arrested by W/O IJ Bester and W/O Johny Mall in March 2009 after he held employees at a business at gunpoint demanding they hand over their phones. He was later identified which led to his arrest.

“We appreciate the effort of Detective Constable Daniel Mahlangu for following information, investigating the case and ensuring that justice takes its course,” said Capt Phinah Seloane, Kriel Police acting station commander.
