Water problems at Siyanqoba

If the water is not connected into their taps they are not going to vote on May 8 during the national elections

The residents of Siyanqoba are complaining about their water they receive from the water tankers.

The residents claim that since their arrival they have been getting this water which are dirty and made them sick.

The contaminated water has forced a nine-year-old boy to spend a week at home because he was sick and was taken to a doctor, clinic and later to the hospital because he had itchy sores all over his body, according to his mother.

Another lady has the same problem with sores all over her body with headache and a running tummy.

The alleged contaminated water at Siyanqoba kept in a bottle.

According to the residents a lot of other people had similar problems.

A 64-year-old granny said she spend three days at Witbank Hospital and was told by doctors that it was because of the water she was drinking.

The people are concerned because they said that the water is usually delivered to them during the night.

They want to know the reason why.

“Some of the drivers are so rude and sometimes drive away before we could fill up our containers. The drivers claim to collect the water from the municipality in Lynnville but they always drive in the opposite direction. We are not sure whether they clean this tanks. We are sick and tired of these contaminated water. Are we waiting for someone to die before something is being done to correct the situation?” asked a resident.

The residents also want to know when is the water going to be connected to their taps.

They said if the water is not connected into their taps they are not going to vote on May 8 during the national elections.

The residents also say the medication from the doctor and hospitals are too costly for them.

Emalahleni Local Municipality communication manager Mr Kingdom Mabuza in his response said that they were not aware of claims that residents of Siyanqoba are supplied with contaminated water not fit for human consumption.

“We have since taken a sample of that water to a laboratory to test these allegations. Should it be found to be true that the water is contaminated, we will take action,” added Mr Mabuza.
