Ibutho Lamanxusa celebrates five years of prayer for eMalahleni
Women from across different churches gather at Rock of Ages Church International to mark five years of interceding for their community.
The Ibutho Lamanxusa movement marked a major milestone last week as it celebrated five years of interceding for eMalahleni.
Led by president Pastor Phila Nkosi and vice-president Bishop Thandi Tolman, the prayer movement hosted a special prayer service on September 16 at Rock of Ages Church International to thank God for sustaining the organisation since its inception.
Movement’s origins
According to Tolman, the movement was started five years ago when women from different groups came together with a shared mission to pray for eMalahleni, their homes and the challenges facing the community.
She said they host a prayer service twice a year, and this year’s September service was dedicated to celebrating God’s faithfulness.
“So now we were thanking God because He has brought us this far,” said Tolman. “We were thanking Him that Ibutho Lamanxusa is still standing after five years.”
Tolman said their mission remains to pray against all challenges facing the city and South Africa at large.
“Our mission is to pray because we’re currently faced with situations whereby women are being killed daily, so those are some of the things we pray against,” she said. “We are standing in the gap for all the situations that we encounter, such as drugs, prostitution, accidents. We stand in the gap and pray for God’s intervention.”
She explained that the name of the movement reflects its unity.
“As the name of our movement says, we’ve come together and came up with one name which is going to include different groups with the same mission to intercede for our community and to intercede against all challenges.”
Guest speaker
The celebration also featured a guest speaker from KZN, Apostle Jeannette Nyandeni, who shared the word of God for the day.
“The event went very well, and we thank God that He was with us from the planning until the very end of the service,” she concluded.
