Curro Bankenveld’s high school girls’ marimba band was crowned overall winner at the Marimba Festival following a series of top performances.

The team secured the title on September 12 after taking first place in both the Timeless Classic and Compose Your Vibe categories, alongside a bronze medal in the Mzansi 4 Sho section.

“A huge congratulations to our incredible marimba stars. Your talent, teamwork, dedication and passion truly shone through,” Curro Bankenveld said. “You represented our school with confidence and excellence, and we could not be prouder of you.”

The winning team comprised Olwethu Zondo, Tamia Goberdhan, Arikonisaho Netshikweta, Asanda Tembe, Khanyisile Mkhonza, Lungile Doda, Tsebo Ngqendesha, Bontle Makola and Nokwanda Ndlela.

A second marimba team from the school also competed, featuring Ryan Ifeh, Neontle Teledimo, Tshiamo Mmusi, Shawn Ifeh, Ofentse Maseko and Shudu Mukondeleli.

“These learners also shone brightly on the day, and we are so grateful for their commitment,” the school said.

Curro thanked its phenomenal coach, Vuyo Matsimbi, whose dedication, commitment, patience, and incredible musical talent helped the young musicians reach new heights.

“Thank you for believing in them, challenging them and bringing out the very best in every performance. This achievement is a true reflection of the passion and hard work you pour into our learners,” the school said.
