The robbery occurred on Monday, March 3 at 10:30 when the owner of the shop was about to assist G4S guards to collect the money from the safe.
While the shop owner was busy behind the container, he noticed that the shop needed plastic bags. He then went to another room to collect the plastic bags and went back to the cashier point.
“I then took the key from the guard from G4S and opened the safe with the combination,” said the owner who would like to stay anonymous.
The owner alleged after he opened the safe, an unknown man suddenly entered the shop with a cold drink in his hand and he indicated he wanted to pay.
Suddenly he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the owner; then he grabbed the moneybag and ran away. The suspect is unknown and was not wearing a mask.
Witbank SAPS arrived on scene as well as the Detective Unit to see what had happened.
The shop was well equipped with cameras, but during the time of the robbery the power was off in the area.
