49 crashes, however no deaths

A total of 49 accidents occurred over the past weekend.

From March 14 to 17, 49 accidents were reported to the Witbank Police.

In an accident on Saturday evening, Mr Trust Mangezi, the driver of a freightliner alleged that he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned in Watermeyer Street close to the N4 onramp. Mangezi sustained minor injuries in the accident.

In another incident, Mr Cameron Theodore was driving in Eddie Street, when a pedestrian allegedly stepped in front of his vehicle causing a pedestrian vehicle accident, police arrived on scene and were only able to take down Theodore’s statement on scene.
Both Mangezi and Theodore were unavailable for comment.

292 Accidents have been reported in just 15 days of March. Last year a total of 464 accidents were reported for the month of March.

Police caution road users to be observant of their surroundings and to adhere to the correct laws of the roads, this will assist in reducing the number of accidents occurring on eMalahleni’s roads.
