The next step in his adventure of life
A read that will inspire you to become better than you are. A read to find yourself.
Many know Keegan Longueira for his ventures through South Africa, riding his trusted bicycle through storm and sunshine.
Now this aspiring young man has released his book titled ‘Two Wheels and a Chain’. The book focuses on Keegan’s life as he dropped out of university, took to the roads of the countryside and found himself despite disbelief.
“The first copy is going to my dad, as a father he chose to let me learn from my mistakes, making me a much better person in the end, he has always been proud of me,” said Keegan.
“It’s very comical, there is a lot of adventure and it is very descriptive, you end up seeing yourself as Keegan throughout the book,” said Ms Paige Cook, Keegan’s girlfriend.
The book follows Keegan and will leave you inspired, upset, intrigued and heartfelt as you read how this young man coped with the biggest upsets in his life to find his biggest achievements.
“I have learnt so much on my travels, having nothing at the time, you learn to appreciate everything, from the smallest gift to kind words from strangers,” said Keegan.
Keegan’s three trips across South Africa on his bike have left many speechless while giving others the inspiration to chase their dreams. The book follows his first solo trip across South Africa, and his second trip where he rode alongside his friend Gert Janse van Rensburg. Keegan’s third trip is more of a documentary, including videos and photos and gives people an understanding of what the Cape Trek is about.
“Watching the footage, and re-reading my book, tears come to my eyes thinking of how much I have been able to achieve thanks to the support of friends and family. It sums up my experiences, both good and bad, it shows the lessons I have learnt,” added Keegan.
Keegan said that people sometimes forget that some have been blessed while others not, and encourages a different way of thinking, portrayed in his book.
Keegan is looking forward to the launch of his book which is set for May 18 at the Methodist Church eMalahleni. People will have the chance to meet and greet this young man as he talks about his book and future plans.
“To think just three years ago, I was a drop-out and someone once said to me ‘I have failed at everything’, but it’s how you look at failure, if you look at it as the end then you won’t achieve anything. But my failures have pushed me forward and the lessons have brought me where I am today,” he continued.
Keegan added that if we have the right attitude, not to give up and not to back down, and by doing things for the right reasons, if we as people can have that mindset we will find ourselves.
As the saying goes, a picture tells a thousand words, Keegan has found a thousand ways to express himself.
