Labour strike at CTC

The faculty requested an 8 percent increase. The faculty has officially gone on strike on February 18 at 12:00. Solidariteit, the civil rights organisation has been assisting the striking teachers with the process and negotiations.

“I just want to point out that they are worth what they are asking, unfortunately the economy in South Africa makes it difficult for us to meet their demands for instance mines closing and mines sending fewer learners. However the 8 percent they are asking for is not unreasonable, and we have proposed a revised offer,” said managing director Johan Venter. The faculty is apparently considering the revised offer. He is optimistic that they will reach a settlement by the end of today.
