An alleged attempted bombing of an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) in Ga-Nala, turned into a high-speed car chase and shootout between security guards and suspected robbers.
On Sunday, March 1 the Zello-group, Witbank 911, received an emergency call at around 05:30 as security and police were chasing after robbers suspected of trying to bomb an ATM in Ga-Nala.
“We got the call saying that the suspects’ vehicle was travelling on the N12,” reported Mr Sean Nass from Witbank 911.
During the shootout between the robbers and security, the right back wheel of the suspects’ vehicle, a white Lumina SS, was damaged and police together with Witbank 911 stayed hot on the trail.
“We found the car pulled off near Tweefontein mine with the engine still running.”
The suspects had allegedly escaped in another vehicle, which had not yet been found.
Nass praised the SAPS who arrived on the scene, especially the forensics team, who inspected the vehicle that was recovered. “They took several hours going through the car, inspecting every nook and cranny, taking samples of even the seat fabric for testing.”
