On Friday, March 21 Mr Brian Mathabatha was allegedly robbed of all his belongings when armed suspects surrounded him in his truck.
Mathabatha said that he and a few other truck drivers doing their routes, had met up in front of the toll gate to go to Middelburg, where they stopped to get some rest before travelling on.
“The others had all fallen asleep,” Mathabatha remembers as he recalls how at around 23:30, about four suspects walked right up to his truck and started pounding with their fists against the windows of the vehicle.
“They opened the doors and one pointed a firearm at me,”
Mathabatha reported how the suspects took all his belongings, including clothes he had with him in the truck, before they fled the scene.
The following day, on Saturday morning March 21, a robbery was also reported in the Central Business District (CBD), Jellicoe Street, where a pedestrian was also allegedly robbed by an armed suspect.
Police warns members of the community to be ever alert when using the roads and to be on lookout for suspected persons and provide police with any information that may lead to a successful arrest.
