Susanna Street stab victim suspect arrested

Within five months after the brutal stabbing of a 36-year-old woman took place, the alleged suspect has been arrested.

The suspect who stabbed Ms Heleen Jansen van Rensburg was arrested by Warrant Officer B. Malepe from Witbank Detective Branch after following strong leads and successful fingerprint matching.

Malepe managed to trace the suspect he was looking for from fingerprints that were lifted from Jansen van Rensburg’s home in Susanna Street in October.
The suspect Malepe was looking for had already been arrested for a case of theft and had already appeared on these charges on March 2 in Witbank Magistrate’s Court.

On March 2 Malepe sat in court waiting for the suspect to appear on the stand.
Once the suspect appeared on the stand for the case of theft, Malepe arrested him for attempted murder.

The incident took place last year October 30 at approximately 13:15 when Jansen van Rensburg was at home with her three children.
She went to check on the noise that her son said he heard. She walked down to the main bedroom to find the suspect already in the room.
He managed to break a window and climb through the burglar proofing. The man threatened Jansen van Rensburg and told her that he was going to kill her.

Jansen van Rensburg fought back, but the suspect stabbed her 12 times all over her body and he also scratched her with the knife.
Bleeding profusely from her 12 stab wounds, Jansen van Rensburg was left in her bedroom.
Her children managed to get help for their mother.
She was taken into theatre where doctors stitched her up and a drainage pipe was inserted into her right lung as it was punctured by the knife.
