Double bomb scare

Two telephonic bomb threats caused evacuations at Saveways Crescent and Highland Mews.

On Tuesday, April 7, at approximately 14:30 Absa Bank at Saveways Crescent Shopping Centre received a telephone call that there was allegedly a bomb inside. The bank and the Shopping Centre were evacuated.

About 10 minutes after the first call was made, another threat was received at FNB Bank, Highland Mews.
Mr Robin Vosloo, Evacuation Leader, said that procedures need to be followed before they could issue any information.
The Bomb Squad were sent to the scenes but found that both threats were negative.

“Every threat is treated with equal caution and proper procedures need to be followed. No one knows whether a bluff is being called when such a telephone call is received,” said police spokesperson, Sgt David Ratau.
