Sipho Senkosi Disabled Centre in Ackerville has been robbed, the centre which is situated near Bonginsimbi Secondary School in Ackerville was robbed of more than R20 000.
According to the centre manager Ms Yvonne Mavimable, suspects travelling in a white Toyota Tazz the old model, went past the centre on Wednesday, May 4 and three of them jumped from the car while in motion. They were wearing overalls like the ones worn by local municipal workers. After greeting her they said they were looking for a space for one of their sister’s children. Ms Mavimbela told them that she no longer takes children as the place is getting smaller and was still waiting for a promised donated plot from one Mabena family. Within a short time one of them allegedly insulted her and drew a gun.

“I jumped to him and we both fell down and we get up again as he pointed the gun at me and tried to shoot and avoided the bullet and he missed. He then went straight to my bedroom, kick open the door and went to the wardrobe where I keep the money and took it, together with a bag containing my daughter’s underwear. He also took my cell phone.”
Ms Mavimbela stated that the money was meant to buy the children’s food as well as for the helper’s payments and other needs.
Outside of Sipho Senkosi Disabled Centre in Ackerville which was recently robbed. Children in the centre are housed in a garage.
One of the suspects who have been arrested used to work at the centre and was only dismissed last month for allegedly stealing from the centre and her boyfriend was involved.
One of the children was traumatised by the whole ordeal and will need counselling.
“I would like to appeal to the police to do patrol at our area during the day and more during the night. I would also request them to visit the centre and see for themselves the children we take care of. Sergeant David Ratau and Ms Mtsweni have adopted some of the children from the centre. We would also invite our mother, executive mayor Cllr Lindiwe Nthalintshali to visit us as well as municipal manager Mr Theo Van Vuuren,” added Ms Mavimbela.
Ms Mavimbela explained that she nearly died for the children she loved so much and has been struggling to get a bigger place for them. The children are presently housed at her garage.
“It was through the grace of God that nobody was hurt, but I am struggling to come to terms with the whole ordeal and will also need counselling,” concluded Ms Mavimbela.
Police has confirmed that two suspects has been arrest a man aged 29 years and a lady aged 22 years.
