The dozens of square potholes

“The people working on the road should have just left it because they just caused a bigger problem for us."

The length of Steve Bantu Biko Street and several roads in Klipfontien and Tasbet park has been given a small ray of hope when working crews swept through the area with the promise of better, smoother and safer roads, unfortunately it was not as it seemed.

Over 50 potholes were squared and cleaned out ready to be filled with fresh tar however that was four weeks ago and the unfilled holes have grown wider and deeper than ever, leaving large parts of the road with eroding square holes.
These holes cover most of the road and became very hazardous for residents especially those travelling at night.

One of the many potholes caused by the road works over a month ago.

“The people working on the road should have just left it because they just caused a bigger problem for us. They should have not done half a job like this,” said an angry resident who has had to fix his car tyre and rim because of a pothole just a few months ago.

The municipal spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng was contacted for comment on the matter however no response has yet been received.
