The empty shop belonging to shop owner Mr Abdinur Ismail Mohammed in Vosman after it was allegedly looted by protesters on Monday, January 16, goods worth more than R240 000 were looted according to Mr Mohammed.
Mr Mohammed explained that a group of about 200 people came running to his shop after a running battle with the police. He said they broke the burglar door and the door to gain entrance to the shop.
“They took everything that was inside the shop. The shop was fully stocked with goods and they cleaned the shop and took goods worth about R240 000 and four fridges as well,” said Mr Mohammed.
He said the protesters blocked the road for the police to pass through the main road while they looted his shop and when the police eventually came the shop was already empty.
According to Mohammed his shop was broken into in 2010, 2012 and in 2015 when it was looted by land invaders and later they burned the shop and again this year. Another nearby shop was looted as well.
“I have lost a lot during all these incidents and I am trying to make a living but some people are against my efforts to make a genuine living,” added Mr Mohammed.
