An attempted murder case was opened after a man was shot in the chest while driving.

Witbank Police officers received a phone call of a shooting incident at the Old Middelburg Road.

On Saturday evening, August 12 the 30-year-old man was driving a blue Toyota Avanza.
When the police arrived on scene, the officials found the man inside the vehicle.

The police asked the victim what happened and the victim explained everything to the police.

The victim said he was on his way from Middelburg going to eMalahleni. When he approached a stop sign, he saw a vehicle that was driving behind him. The other car then flicked its lights. As the driver of the Avanza slowed down, the other vehicle drove next to the Avanza and the person inside the other car opened fire.

The victim managed to drive to the nearest filling station where he stopped to get help. The man was wounded in the chest and was bleeding.

An eye witness alleged that the suspects who might have committed the crime fled in a charcoal Ford focus with an unknown registration number.

Efforts to contact the victim were unsuccessful.
