The problem just spouted up

A major water leak from one of the bulk feeder lines directly from Point B reservoir, underneath the N4, caused water to seep into the N4 construction works.

The water leak was exposed on September 6 when excavation to start the layer works for the new lane began in the median of the N4.

A lot of ground water started to appear at the bottom of the excavation.

“We were aware of a leaking valve on the side of the road, leaking for about 10 years without being repaired by the local authorities, and this forms part of the leak,” said Ms Solange Soares-Nicholson, TRAC Communications Manager.

A water pipe burst caused a slight delay in the rehabilitation of the N4 Highway.

She added that after discussions with the Emalahleni Municipality the valve would be repaired. The Emalahleni Municipality conducted repairs at the Point B tower on September 7.

“The valve was repaired but the water issue still remains. TRAC has however taken the necessary precautions to protect the new works against water ingress to ensure no future repairs will be required,” said Soares-Nicholson.
