
Residents of Dixon Plots are embarrassed to have guests over as when the rubbish that is being dumped there piles up, there is a stench.
One can see the rubbish as you walk or drive in Elands Street entering the plots. Various things are being dumped such as bottles, plastics, animals, papers, building materials and tree branches amongst others.

Left over building materials gets dumped at Dixon Plots. Residents of the area are complaining about the dumping that is happening in the area.
For the longest time the couple took pictures and sent them to the municipality, but they did not receive positive feedback.
At some point the couple started approaching dumpers, some were remorseful while others become arrogant justifying their actions by stating that they did not know that the area was not a dumping site.

From dead animals to food and tree branches, people dump almost everything at Dixon Plots.

That is when the couple attempted again with the municipality, the couple was transferred to the Environment Department and were given a ‘No dumping’ sign.
The municipality’s spokesperson, Mr Kingdom Mabuza said the removal of the ‘No dumping’ sign was an offense which could lead to a fine.
“Our law enforcement officers will fine anyone found to be dumping debris where they are not supposed to,” said Mabuza.
The couple said the smell becomes too much at times when the rubbish piles up.

Dixon Plots look like a nightmare because of what is happening there. Apparently the people that dump there removed the ‘No dumping’ sign.
“Even we as residents do not put our rubbish here. We pay a company to remove the rubbish. So why are people dumping in our area when we do not dump in their area. This is not a dumping site,” said the woman with frustration.
The residents said the stench leads to the area being a health hazard. “We cannot continue living like this,” a woman said.
Mabuza said the municipality frequently issues schedules for refuse removal and it is disheartening that there are residents who continue to dump where they are not supposed to. The spokesperson mentioned that there are council approved dumping sites
