The operation was held on Wednesday, 0ctober 11 during the law enforcement operation in eMalahleni. The focus of the operation was on scholar or learner transport in the province. All impounded vehicles will be released upon payment of between R2 000 to R2 500 fines issued by transport inspectors. The department calls upon all operators in the province who are involved in the conveyance of learners or scholars to apply for the relevant operating license as required by the Act.

Applications can be made at all our regional Provincial Regulatory Entity (Operating License section) which can be found in Kwamhlanga, Ermelo, Thulamahashe and Mbombela. It is also important to note that licenses are only issued to minibuses which are taxi recapitalisation compliant.

The department does not issue operating licenses to bakkies. Vehicles operating without licenses run the risk of litigation during accident insurance settlement disputes and complications when applying for Road Accident Fund.
The department will continue with these law enforcement operations throughout the month in other parts of the province as part of Transport Month.
