Thriving eMalahleni poultry enterprise scoops top business honours

From overcoming tough financial setbacks to inspiring future agri-entrepreneurs, a dedicated poultry farmer explains how she is using her venture to empower the local community.

A local farmer is flying high after scooping two awards for her thriving poultry business.

Khanyisile Mnguni Matshiga, founder of Ezimnandi Poultry Farming Enterprise, recently won first place at the Hollywood Foundation Mpumalanga Bambelela Business Awards.

She said: “Winning the award is a very special achievement for me and for Ezimnandi Poultry Farming Enterprise. It is more than just an award – it is recognition of the hard work, resilience and commitment that have gone into building the business. I feel extremely grateful, humbled and proud to have been selected for this award.”

Farmer overcomes financial hurdles

Mnguni also shared details of her journey in poultry farming.

“My journey has not always been easy,” she said. “Like many small businesses, I have faced financial challenges, setbacks and moments when giving up would have been much easier. However, I continued to believe in my vision and kept working to grow Ezimnandi. What started as a dream has grown into a business that produces and sells broiler chickens and chicks, while also developing skills and creating opportunities within the local community.”

Poultry venture empowers local community

Mnguni said her hope is that Ezimnandi will continue to grow, create opportunities, and inspire others to believe in their own dreams.

“The impact I want Ezimnandi to have goes beyond simply selling chickens. I want the business to contribute to the development of my community by creating employment opportunities, supporting other local businesses and suppliers, and making poultry products and chicks more accessible to local farmers and customers,” she said.

“Through poultry farming, I also want to encourage other young people and aspiring entrepreneurs to consider agriculture as a viable business opportunity,” she said. “Agriculture is not just about farming – it can create opportunities across production, sales, logistics, processing and many other areas.”
