A woman tried to defend herself from a suspect who was armed with a broken glass bottle as she was being attacked in her garden.
On Monday, October 23 at approximately 13:00 a woman was at her house in Hofmeyer Street in Extension 3.
The woman was at home alone at the time of the attack, busy working in the front garden.
While she was working in the garden, the woman noticed a person walk past her house on the opposite side of the road.
“I saw that he looked at me and then I thought he carried on walking away,” said the woman.
Not thinking about the person that just walked past her house, the woman carried on working in her garden.
A few minutes later the woman heard the small gate to her garden open and when she turned around she saw the suspect standing in her garden armed with a broken bottle.

Camera footage of the suspect who attacked a woman in her garden on Monday, October 23 in Extension 3.
“He kept on shouting at me, ‘give me your cell phone or I will kill you’,” recalls the terrified woman.
All the woman could do was to keep the suspect as far away from her body as possible by using her hands to push him away.
“He somehow managed to stab the bottle into my arm, grabbing the cell phone and running away,” she said.
The suspect ran away, leaving the shocked woman with a bloody arm. She went inside to watch the video footage of what actually happened as it all happened so quickly.
“As he walked past my house, he started breaking bottles until he got a big piece of broken glass. He then jumped over the wall and walked through the garden until he reached me. This all happened so quickly, within two minutes it was over,” continued the woman.
The suspect was wearing a Maroon t-shirt and he was a tall person.
“If I close my eyes I can see his face, it was a bad face. Every shadow you get a fright. I never slept last night, because every time I closed my eyes I could see his face,” said the woman.
After stopping at the WITBANK NEWS offices the woman went to the doctor to get injections and medication.
