Baby MJ’s blood count is dropping slowly but surely

As baby MJ Botha starts to gain more and more weight, the Apha- fetoprotein (AFP) blood count is dropping.

As baby MJ Botha starts to gain more and more weight, the Apha- fetoprotein (AFP) blood count is dropping.
On October 19 Shauné and Marius Botha got the blood results back that they were anxiously waiting for.

The AFP in his blood was 27 000 and had to come down to 23 000. Since then more blood tests were done to keep an eye on the count.

On Thursday, October 26 the Botha couple received the other blood test results back from Prof Reynders (Paediatric Oncologist) at Unitas Hospital in Pretoria.

The blood count was just under 17 000 and is still coming down.
According to Reynders, the Botha couple have nothing to worry about at the moment.

If it was not one thing it was another for the Botha couple to worry about. MJ had to go for an ultrasound on his heart as they thought something was wrong.

Baby MJ now almost two months old weighing 2.24kg.

According to Reynders there was nothing wrong with his heart.
Next week, MJ goes for more blood tests to see if the blood count is still coming down.

But for now MJ weighs a healthy 2.24kg and two months old.

“But we still don’t know what is on his liver, but at least the blood count is coming down,” said Marius.

On Tuesday, October 31 MJ went for tests on his eyes to make sure everything is alright with them as he was a premature baby.

“We can only thank the Lord that the results are coming down and for our blessing once again,” said Shauné.
