R547 is getting attention

After several articles in WITBANK NEWS about the deterioration of the R547, the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport said they will be fixing that stretch of road soon.

The road is deteriorating due to heavy vehicles transporting coal from various mines in the vicinity. For motorists this is a nightmare because of the potholes.

“The department is aware of the condition of the road. Potholes on a road are usually an indication of a more structural damage on the road, and the real intervention is total rehabilitation (reconstruction) of the road. In the short to medium term, the department has appointed a contractor to patch the potholes to mitigate motorists’ inconvenience. Some sections of the road will also be resealed as part of the intervention,” said Mr Mpho Gabashane from the department.
