Rumours are flying about the Executive Mayor Cllr Lindiwe Ntshalintshali’s resignation.
The news broke on Tuesday, March 13.
The Democratic Alliance’s Caucas Leader in eMalahleni Cllr Naritha Naidu welcomed this news.
“We welcome the resignation of Executive Mayor, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali even though she is leaving Emalahleni on the verge of total collapse,” Cllr Naidu said.
Cllr Naidu said under Cllr Ntshalintshali’s watch the municipality sank into a state of insolvency.
“Instead of ‘moving Emalahleni forward’, the municipality has been crippled with poor service delivery, R1.6 billion Eskom debt, corruption and a R2.2 billion debtors account,” Cllr Naidu said.

Executive Mayor Cllr Lindiwe Ntshalintshali is going to lead the ANC’s election campaign.
He said the ANC has taken a conscious decision to redeploy some of its best members to lead the party’s election campaign. It started in the party’s national office, Luthuli House, with Fikile Mbalula. Now the party has set its eyes on provinces and it is identifying capable members with proven track record of hardworking and loyalty.
“It is in that context that her political party identified her to lead the election campaign in Mpumalanga province. Cllr Ntshalintshali succeeded in stabilising Emalahleni Local Municipality, and her astute leadership was recognised when she was elected deputy president of South African Local Government Associationand later the president of the United Cities and Local Government of Africa. Her new role should be viewed as upward mobility. She continues to make a mark in all leadership roles she is assigned.”
“We hope that whoever is deployed to replace Cllr Ntshalintshali would ensure that the delivery of basic services is prioritised, The Eskom payment arrangements are adhered to and there is a tough stance when it comes to rooting out corruption. We wish the Executive Mayor well in her future endeavours and hope that wherever she gets deployed by her party she would have learnt never to prioritise luxurious vehicles at the expense of the people she vows to serve,” Cllr Naidu said.
