A call for concern: Rising epidemic of drug usage and possession

In another unrelated arrest, a man was arrested due to consumption of heroin in a public place

Recent arrests on the counts for drug possession should be alarming for eMalahleni residents, with over five arrests just last week of both drug possession and usage.

SAPS members were on patrol duty on Saturday June 15, when they noticed a man who appeared dubious, which prompted the members to give search to the man, where they found him in possession of a suspicious amount of dagga, which later resulted in the suspect’s arrest.

In another unrelated arrest, a man was arrested due to consumption of heroin in a public place.

Another similar arrest was on Wednesday June 12, where the suspect was arrested at 18:30 in Lewis Street in the CBD.

Another arrest was made on June 15 at ‘Why Not Tavern’ at Klipfontein Extension 8 where the suspect was arrested due to drug possession.

During a patrol around the CBD, Constables Maduma and Masango noticed another peculiar male suspect roaming the area that they were patrolling, they then stopped the suspect and gave search to him and it is then where they found a small transparent plastic bag that contained five small individually wrapped plastic bags, each containing a yellow substance.

This led to the suspect’s arrest.
