A wonderful 40 years for SAVF Wonderland

In 1961, Mrs Erasmus started looking after her working friends’ children at her home; however, the demand was so great that she could not accommodate everyone at her house

The “Suid-Afrikaanse Vroue Federasie (SAVF) se Dagversorgingsoord”, as it was known in those days, and now SAVF Wonderland, has been looking after children of working mothers since 1979.

In 1961, Mrs Erasmus started looking after her working friends’ children at her home; however, the demand was so great that she could not accommodate everyone at her house.

Soon an infant school had been opened in Hofmeyer Street, and not long after that this facility was full to the brim as well as mothers flooded to the centre for the peace of mind of knowing that their child was being loved and nurtured whilst they were at work.

On September 14, SAVF Wonderland (located at 33 Churchill Avenue) celebrated their 40th birthday.

You were welcomed at the door with a free donut and a smile; a perfect metaphor for the comfort and “family vibe” that the kindergarten is so famous for.

The day consisted of a lot of activities like jumping castles, a flea market, art auction, children’s art on display and a potjiekos competition for Grade one to seven learners with a whopping R1 000 up for grabs.
