Operation Clean-Up has started
The aim of this operation is to remove all illegal hawkers, businesses and illegal immigrants from the streets of eMalahleni
eMalahleni’s Law Enforcement along with the police are making it their mission to clean the streets of our city.
On Monday, October 21, the chief of Law Enforcement, Chief Motha along with her team members and police took to the streets of eMalahleni CBD.
This is part of an operation named ‘Operation Clean-up’.
The aim of this operation is to remove all illegal hawkers, businesses and illegal immigrants from the streets of eMalahleni.
This operation started during the first week of October and it is still carrying on.
During the first week of Operation Clean-up 37 illegal immigrants were arrested.
They also removed illegal business owners from the streets.
During the second week seven illegal immigrants were arrested.
“This operation is not only focusing on illegal immigrants but on all those who fail to comply with the bylaws of our local municipality,” explained chief Motha.
On Friday, October 18, 14 more illegal immigrants were taken into custody after it came to light that they are the mechanics illegally repairing vehicles at the side of the road in eMalahleni CBD.
On Monday, October 21, chief Motha and her team went to close these illegal car repairing services.
“We towed away two vehicles that were being serviced right here in the street. It is illegal and we will not stand for that,” the chief explained.
Law Enforcement is making use of a private towing company that takes the vehicles to their yard.
“It is the responsibility of the vehicle’s owner to go and get their car back,” chief Motha concluded.
