In the blink of an eye it was all gone

Unfortunately, most of the house was already ruined by the brutal flames of the fire and only the walls and parts of the roof remained

A family was left devastated after their home went up in flames on what seemed to be a peaceful Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, November 3, clouds of smoke filled the sky in Wattle and Karee Streets.

It was just before 17:30 when a house in Karee Street caught alight.

Neighbours and curious individuals rushed to the street to see what was happening.

“It all just happened so fast,” a bystander on the scene explained. “All of a sudden the house was on fire.”

A team from Legacy Emergency Specialists along with volunteers from the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch) and the local fire department tried to save what was left of the house.

Unfortunately, most of the house was already ruined by the brutal flames of the fire and only the walls and parts of the roof remained.

“We think the fire started in the front part of the house,” a firefighter stated.

Two gas bottles were also safely removed from the house, thus avoiding explosions.

Unfortunately, the house was not able to be saved and almost everything burned away.

The exact cause of this fire was not determined by the time of going to print.

There were no injuries but Legacy paramedics did treat the residents of the house for shock and smoke inhalation.

This is one of three homes that burned in the past week.

The house of the Lubbe family in Steve Bantu Biko Street also went up in flames on Friday, 25 October.

On Monday, 4 November a house in Malmesbury Street in Model Park also burned.
