High fashion disrupted in CBD

One of the three was unlucky and was apprehended with bags full of counterfeit clothing and shoes

Illegal street traders have been an ongoing problem in eMalahleni’s Central Business District (CBD).

On November 5, Chief Delisiwe Motha, along with Inspector Elias Hlabangwane, Constable Venti Nkosi and Senior Supervisor Sbongile Mahlangu, decided to combat this rampant plague.

The law enforcement team came across a group of three men selling clothing and shoes at the side of the road – upon spotting the marked police vehicle, the three men started running away.

One of the three was unlucky and was apprehended with bags full of counterfeit clothing and shoes.

Approximately 60 pairs of high-end shoes, along with various miscellaneous items of clothing, were found in his possession – the shoes alone were estimated to be worth approximately R100 000.

Unfortunately for the man in question, he was also illegally working in South Africa; having come over from his home country on a visitor’s visa that does not make allowance for work or trading.

The man was taken into custody, where immigration services were notified of his status.
