Blood requested for arrested
SANBS are approaching the festive season and the number of people in need of surgery or blood transfusions, increase during this Season
The South African National Blood Services eMalahleni has embarked on a project called ‘Jail in Bail out’ to assist in increasing their much needed blood supply.
“The jail in bail out event, is a promotion that we do at SANBS to raise awareness, we jail prominent people and they have to ask people to bail them out and at this event there were three people we jailed; Maureen Scheepers, Beauty Mabitla and Phindile Mtombeni,” said Donor Relations Practitioner, Thina Tuoane.

SANBS are approaching the festive season and the number of people in need of surgery or blood transfusions, increase during this Season.
It is therefore of utmost importance that we would like to ensure that SANBS has a good supply of blood this festive season.
Less than 1% of South Africans are active blood donors and one unit of blood can save up to three lives!
A unit of blood to be freed from jail at the jail-and-bail, participants, friends, family, bosses or co-workers and the community were urged to get themselves cuffed at the donor centre and get people to donate blood before being released.

SANBS eMalahleni branch collected a total of 47 units of blood on November 22 and the winner who brought in the most donors for the day was Maureen Scheepers.
“We would like to give thanks to Witbank SAPS, South African Community Crime Watch, eMalahleni FMradio and the Witbank News for being part of the event and also not forgetting the wonderful hardworking staff and committee members,” Tuoane concluded.
