Joining hands to pray for the city of eMalahleni

The prayer day was held in all three taxi ranks of eMalahleni in Ga-Nala taxi rank, Phola and the local and long distance taxi ranks.

The office of the Executive Mayor of eMalahleni through the Transversal Unit which caters for the aged and persons with disabilities in conjunction with the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison and the MEC for Social Development conjointly with the eMalahleni Pastoral Fraternal and the eMalahleni Taxi Associations organised a prayer day for a safer festive season and for social-ills post the closing ceremony of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Abuse.

The prayer day was held in all three taxi ranks of eMalahleni in Ga-Nala taxi rank, Phola and the local and long distance taxi ranks.

The prayer day was held on Thursday, December 12.

The aim of the prayer day was to raise awareness and conscientising commuters on issues relating to domestic violence and other dreadful violent crimes such as murder, robbery, rape, assault, emotional violence and trauma.

The city has been experiencing an alarming number of incidents of domestic violence, rape and abduction of children and slaying of a person with albinism. All the stakeholders joined forces in promoting collective responsibility by beseeching and sending supplications to God for no violence against women, children, elderly citizens and persons with disabilities as well as praying for protection against accidents and tolerance on the roads as most citizens will be ferried to various destinations utilizing public transport.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality, eMalahleni Pastoral Fraternal, conjointly with the eMalahleni Taxi Associations and the MEC for Social Development and the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison embarked on the prayer sessions.

In her address, the Executive Mayor of eMalahleni Cllr Linah Malatjie added to say that there is a need to join hands to pray for peace and other social ills within the city.

She said it was important that we pray for no accidents on the roads and a safe journey to all those who will be travelling during the festive season after the heavy rains.

“Our children will have more free time during the holidays, let’s help and guide them and show them the correct ways. Let us support them and give them love. As some are already involved in drugs, let’s pray and ask God to give us strength to overcome all the social ills. We also need to pray for peace, unity and stability in all the taxi associations and unity within the city.”
