Knock, knock – who’s there?
The three men didn’t stay long, and fled in an unknown direction with their loot

According to the most recent crime statistics released by SAPS, there were 22 431 armed robberies (aggravated robbery) at residential premises in South Africa between April 1 2018 and March 31 2019, a 0.8% increase from the 2017/2018 financial year.
On January 5, at approximately 15:00 in the afternoon, a woman in Die Heuwel became part of these statistics when she heard a knock at her door.
“I was watching television when I heard a knock at my apartment’s door. I went to answer, but the moment I unlatched the door, three adult men pushed past me and into the house. They demanded that I give them the R10 000 which I had withdrawn from an ATM the day before. I pointed them in its direction, after which they told me to lay down on the bed. They left me lying there and locked me in my room while they pillaged the rest of the house. They got away with R10 000 cash, as well as a television and a laptop,” the woman retold.
The three men didn’t stay long, and fled in an unknown direction with their loot.
“It seems it’s never safe to draw cash from an ATM anymore. Don’t even think you’re safe the day after withdrawing it. Obviously, they’re watching you,” the woman lamented.
