It’s still rape if it’s a case of mistaken identity

Sexual violence is the use of coercion or manipulation to involve someone, without their consent, in unwanted sexual activity

South Africa’s rate of sexual violence and rape is amongst the highest in the world.

It is estimated that over 40% of South African women will be raped in their lifetime and that only one in nine rapes are reported.

Sexual violence is the use of coercion or manipulation to involve someone, without their consent, in unwanted sexual activity.

On January 4, a young woman was attending a house party in Duvha Park, when she and her boyfriend decided to slip away to get some privacy.

They ended up in an empty bedroom in the house, and were soon engaging in sexual activity. Afterwards, the boyfriend excused himself to go to the bathroom whilst the woman stayed in bed, where she drifted off to sleep.

She awoke to someone fondling her in the dark bedroom.

She assumed that it was her boyfriend getting frisky again, and enthusiastically joined in. When they were finished, the man got up and exited the room, leaving the woman lying in bed.

The next moment, the woman’s boyfriend exited the bathroom and the woman realised that the man with whom she had just had sexual intercourse could not possibly be her boyfriend.

She sprinted out of the room, chasing the man with whom she had just had intercourse who had left the room.

She found him quite easily, and to her shock realised that it had been her boyfriend’s best friend pretending to be her boyfriend.
