Get your heads ready for the Shavathon this weekend
Shavathon is an annual cancer awareness campaign that usually takes place in shopping centres across the country every year

National Shavathon Day is coming and Cansa invites you to take part.
The organization is again hosting this event as a way to show support for cancer patients, and to those interested, must be ready to shave, spray their hair or make a donation that will go towards Cansa’s care and support services for patients, caregivers and their loved ones.
Highveld community mobilizer, Mthokozisi Nkambule said the initiative is inspired by the common side effects of cancer treatment and hair loss.
“We want them to feel some sense of belonging, and also acknowledge that they are not alone when we shave off our hair. Because most of the time they find it difficult to socialize, become shy or sad after hair loss.”
Nkambule further added that participation provides a great deal of opportunities for everyone ‘to take part.’
“We also catered for those who feel uncomfortable with shaving their heads, instead they may either choose to colour, stencilling their hair or make a donation that will contribute towards Cansa’s care and support programmes and also a pony tail to make a wig.”
Shavathon is an annual cancer awareness campaign that usually takes place in shopping centres across the country every year.
According to Cansa’s office manager, Andries du Preez, last year’s event raised roughly R50 000 that benefited patients from all over the country, because the event is a national awareness.
This year’s Witbank Shavathon will take place at Highveld Mall and Ben Fleur Boulevard on February 29.
For participation, adults will pay R50 and children under the age of 12, R25.
