Colleagues held hostage, eight suspects fled with cellphone and keys

Ntshangase said this incident has caused him a lot of fear with his work

Witbank Police are investigating a case of armed robbery after eight suspects held security guards and a driver hostage.

The incident took place in Tasbet Park x1 on Saturday, February 22 at around 20:00.

Mr Thami Ntshangase, a driver at Master Tech, along with his four colleagues were having their dinner when eight men entered their workplace.

“I was sitting with my colleagues, having dinner when eight men barged into our security room with firearms. We were gathered and forced not to stare at them as they were not wearing balaclavas, they tied each of us with ropes on our hands and legs demanding that we tell them where someone we do not know is because he owes them a lot of money. They also had our mouths covered with insulation tape, so we do not make noise. The suspects fled the scene shortly after being threatened by the sound of a truck from the neighbourhood.”

Ntshangase said this incident has caused him a lot of fear with his work.

“We do not know whether they will come back or not, so we are working in fear. This was a shocking experience for all of us,” he expressed.

Police reports indicate that the suspects fled the scene with a cellphone, (Samsung J5) as well as truck keys.

No arrests have been made as yet.
