Thirty people fined for not adhering to lock down in eMalahleni

Three taxi drivers were also fined for transporting members of the community who are not part of the essential services as set out by government

Since Operation Lock Down was implemented yesterday Witbank SAPS has a busy day- and night shift.

They arrested 20 illegal immigrants, four for drunk and driving and 30 were issued fines for failing to stay at home during the 21 day lock down.

“We issued 30 people with R1 000 fines for failing to confine themselves to their place of residence,” said police spokesperson Capt Eddie Hall

Three taxi drivers were also fined for transporting members of the community who are not part of the essential services as set out by government.

“People are requested to stay and shop in their neigbourhoods they are staying in and to limit movement at all times,” Capt Hall said.

Essential workers who are allowed to work in accordance with the act are requested to have their ID books, drivers license and permit to perform essential services with them all the time as failing to produce such a permit will result in a fine of R2 000.
