Education on-air on local radio stations
Learners can access the radio lessons from home by tuning into local and community radio stations across Mpumalanga

Education on all spheres has been disrupted and put on hold due to the global COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in the national lockdown.
Thus, schools have closed leaving learners not knowing where to get educated.
Some parents have opted to teach their children but what about uneducated parents or parents who do not have the materials to teach their children?
Old Mutual and the Mpumalanga Department of Education came to the rescue of such parents.
The institutions partnered to roll out free lessons on radio stations for Grade 1 to 12 learners to help minimise the disruptive impact of COVID-19.
According to Old Mutual senior communications consultant Inga Hlatswayo, the initiative will benefit about a million learners and 33 000 teachers who are at home.
Learners can access the radio lessons from home by tuning into local and community radio stations across Mpumalanga.
The on-air 30 minutes classroom allows learners to call in, email or WhatsApp the presenter with their questions or comments.
Director of Corporate Affairs and Responsible Business at Old Mutual, Maserame Mouyemein in a press release said: “We encourage the learners, teachers and parents of Mpumalanga to make good use of this opportunity to continue the learning process and avoid falling behind. We hope this partnership with the Mpumalanga Department of Education will inspire and stimulate our learners and help keep them on the path to success. We are also very grateful to the radio stations for their enthusiasm and support for this initiative.”
Lessons for grade 1 to 9 learners take place every Monday to Thursday at 11:30 to 12:00 and grade 10 to 12 learners can tune in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 17:30 to 18:00.
Learners can tune in to Emalahleni FM the lessons as scheduled.
“It will be a live broadcast done from one of our community radio station in Mbombela streaming to specific community radio stations like Emalahleni FM,” said Emalahleni station manager, Mr Charles Magagula.
The morning lessons form part of the Late Morning Show and the afternoon lessons will form part of the Isiphithiphithi Afternoon Drive Show.
He added: “We have changed our programming to accommodate these lessons as we value the education as an important weapon of the future of learners of Emalahleni as we want to see them improve their results.”
Learners can also make use of Greater Middelburg FM (89.2), Ikwekwezi FM (96.8) and Ligwalagwala FM (101.3). Ikwekwezi and Ligwalagwala FM are also available on DSTV audio.
