At the moment, the department is working on processing the Covid-19 Relief Fund for the Sport and Recreational Industry

People in the Creative Industry who applied for the department’s Covid-19 Relief Fund and whose applications were successful received their monies on August 1.

“We are happy to announce that the department processed 96 applications of individual artists and 13 of groups on August 1 (see attachments). The payments were made in accordance with the payment structure of the Covid-19 Relief Fund in which individual artists receive R5 000 and groups R20 000,” explained the department’s spokesperson, Sibongile Nkosi.

Nkosi added that 112 individual artists and 24 group applications were disapproved for various reasons, including insufficient documentation.

“Artists whose applications were unsuccessful can appeal from Monday, August 17 until the end of the month,” said Nkosi.

The Covid-19 Relief Fund was aimed at offering financial support to Mpumalanga citizens who made a living from the Creative Industry and were unable to do so because of the National State of Disaster from March 16 to June 30.
