Locals star in a movie

Sanele Mahlangu, Pat Mashelela, Phila Molepo and Hush Sipbeer was part of a 12-person cast that shot a movie in Secunda, Kinross, Kriel and eMalahleni.

Growing up, we cannot help to wonder what it feels like to be a movie star.

For four locals from eMalahleni, that dream can become a reality.

Sanele Mahlangu, Pat Mashelela, Phila Molepo and Hush Sipbeer was part of a 12-person cast that shot a movie in Secunda, Kinross, Kriel and eMalahleni.

GK Filmz and CHUW have partnered to produce their first movie entitled ‘iSoka Lamanyala’.

“It is a romantic comedy and will have you glued to your seat,” said Mtshabisi Mpofo who is part of executive production.

The romantic comedy was written by Pava Gunz from Secunda and Pat Mashelela from eMalahleni in July 2020 during level 5 lockdown.

CHUW (pronounced choo) is an abbreviation for ‘Come Hang With Us’, it is a comedy collective formed by Pat Mashelela (eMalahleni) and Ayanda Masilela (Embalenhle) in 2016.

Hosting comedy events all over Mpumalanga brought them to GK Filmz. After shooting various comedy skits as a collective, they collaborated to shoot their first movie.

‘iSoka Lamanyal’ Premiered on December 5, 2020, on YouTube and has achieved 19 000 views in two months since its release.
