Three arrested for tampering with municipal infrastructure out on bail

All three also owes the municipality substantial amounts which are in arrears on their municipal accounts

The three suspects who were arrested and charged for illegally tampering with municipal infrastructure are out on bail.

The operations by the municipality law enforcement that took place on Tuesday, February 23 led to the trio being arrested in Thushanang.

They appeared in Witbank Magistrate’s Court for allegedly connecting electricity illegally.

All three also owes the municipality substantial amounts which are in arrears on their municipal accounts.

Their charges fall under a schedule 5 offence Criminal Matter Amendment Act (No 18 of 2016) section 3(1)(a), for tampering with infrastructure.

Winnie Kgwete (47) who said she was a single mother of three children was released on R500 bail, Martin Petros Mlangeni (44), a poultry farmer with three children was released on R1 000 bail and Valeria Kabi (55), also a mother of six children was released on R500 bail.

Their cases have been postponed to April 16 for further investigations.
