A sad ending for Middelburg as Witbank crushes them

The first team showed what they were made of and had a very impressive all-round game.

Bone crunching tackles and high-flying punts were all over the field this past weekend.

On Saturday, May 22 Witbank Rugby Club hosted Middelburg Rugby Club at Witbank High.

The emotions were all over the place ‒ It was the kick-off to their season and what better way than against an old rivalry.

It was a tough battle for all three teams and nothing but 100 percent was left on the field from both clubs until the final whistle was blown.

Ruan van der Colff got his game face on.

The third team had a really tough battle until the very end of their game. Both teams were running end to end trying to get over for the winning try. Unfortunately, Witbank Rugby Club lost 5-8.

The second team also had an up and down game and spread the ball nicely to their wingers who both showed great speed throughout the game.

Every player put their bodies on the line, but came up short and lost the game 12-19.

The first team showed what they were made of and had a very impressive all-round game.

Both forwards were the work engines of the teams and the backs with their flair played well as a team on the day.

They outmuscled and outplayed the visitors, and won the game 20-9.

Lock forward Jean-Di Oosthuisen and scrumhalf Christo Nelson was awarded ‘Man of the Match’ status after the game.

Witbank Rugby Club will travel to Secunda for their next match where they will go head to head with Sasol Rugby Club.
