Women in sports empowering one another

Women who are new and old in the world of sports gathered to show each other support.

Women of all ages gathered for the first Women in Sports Unite meeting to empower each other.

The meeting was held at Anelli’s Tea Garden on Friday, September 24. Intending to commend and encourage women in sports, Sibongile Mathonsi Magagula saw it fit to gather women for the much-needed meeting.

Guest speakers at the meeting shared their journey in the sports world which paved way for women who wanted to join male dominant sports.

Buhle ‘Best’ Ngobese, a mountain biker and road cyclist who has won many accolades in cycling races said that women should start challenging the norms, join cycling and other interesting sports activities. Buhle took the third-place podium finish in the SA National Championship for 2020/2021.

Another honourable achiever, Otilia Nhampimbe shared her journey as a working mother, who was at the Netbank 50km World Record attempt finisher. Otilia has attended, many other races around the country and admitted that even though it wasn’t easy, she managed to be a present mother to her child.

“I was happy to see women of all ages gather in the name of sports with our guest speakers that have proven that nothing is impossible. I would like to thank our sponsors for the day. It was a dream come true to see women empower one another and celebrating sports on the day,” said Sibongile.
