Creative Minds creating a platform for learners

High school learners win a cash boost at the Creative Minds competition.

The Young Creative Minds, a non-profit organisation, gave seven eMalahleni schools a platform to present reports about different given topics.

The presentations by learners from the schools were Grades 7, 8 and 9.

The topics that were given were: Vandalism, drugs and alcohol abuse, global warming and bullying.

The presentations were held over a three-day event and which started on Tuesday, May 24 for Grade 7, Thursday, May 26 for Grade 8 and Friday, May 27 for Grade 9.

There were also prizes for the best learners in each grade ‒ in grade 7 the first prize winner will receive R750, grade 8 R750 as well and in grade 9 R1 000.

The learners did their presentation in choral verse, poems and monologue.

Some learners did well in their presentation in the chosen topics of their choice.

Abigail Masilela (16) of Zakes Malaza Secondary School after being presented with the cheque of R1 000 as the first prize winner.

The standard was very high, showing that they prepared for their presentation.

It was noted that teachers helped the learners preparing them well for presentation because for most of the learners it was the first time that they presented something in a theatre setting.

During the final day, Luyanda Zulu of Hoërskool Patriot was third and received R250, Nonfundo Masuku of Pine Ridge R500 and Abigail Masilela (16) of Zakes Malaza Secondary School the first prize of R1 000.

Masilela said she worked hard to achieve the first prize.

She thanked her teachers and parents for the support.

Third prize winner Luyanda Zulu of Hoërskool Patriot with her R250 cheque.

She said she was going to give the money to her mother and she will decide the way forward.
